What is ISWA?
ISWA (International Solid Waste Association) is an international network of professionals in the field of waste management. Its purpose is to exchange information and to promote modern waste management concepts as well as environmentally sustainable technologies. Today, ISWA is represented in more than 20 countries and counts about 1'200 members throughout the world.
Swiss membership of ISWA includes treatment plant constructors, planning and consultancy firms, professionals from research institutes, managers of waste treatment plants and public servants.
What are the aims of ISWA Switzerland?
The (international) information exchange ISWA is aiming for can only become reality if regular exchanges also occur at a national level. Most member countries have therefore created a national network, to implement the targets and activities of the ISWA at the national level and allow members to participate in the ISWA working groups and thus receive impulses for their activities in their country. This is why ISWA Switzerland (ISWA-CH) was created on the 31st of march 2000 with the following aims:
- 1. to ensure the exchange of information among the Swiss members, as well as with the different working groups of ISWA at the international level,
- 2. to represent Swiss interests within ISWA as a national member at the General Assembly and coordinate the Swiss representation within the different ISWA workings groups.
ISWA Switzerland does not view itself as a rival for the associations already existing in Switzerland in the field of the waste management. It is simply a forum for national and international contacts.
What are the activities of ISWA Switzerland?
As any other association, ISWA exists thanks to the activities of its members. Besides regular mailings publications, the thematic working groups are, so to say, the backbone of ISWA. This is the reason why national working groups, called forums, have been created.
These activities are coordinated by a secretarial office hosted by an association or company. Participation in the activities of ISWA-CH is mainly financed by the members (or by their company).
How do you benefit by becoming a member of ISWA Switzerland?
As a member of ISWA-CH, you have easy access to the publications and information restricted to its members. The Swiss forums dealing with specific waste management themes are the main centre of activities of ISWA Switzerland. As a member of this association you can exchange information and create contacts within the forums.
The Swiss forums also send delegates to the corresponding international working group. Thus, Swiss forum members also profit from these wider contacts and information.
What does it cost to be member of ISWA Switzerland?
ISWA Switzerland has two membership categories :
- - individual members (individuals, employed or not in a company)
- - collective members (companies, respectively several employees of a company or organisation).
The fee for an individual member is of 100.- Sfr per year (reduced fees for students). By joining, collective members show their support for the aims ISWA Switzerland. The fee for collective members is of 1'000.- Sfr per year.
Both as individual and collective members you will profit from the rich stream of information coming from ISWA and of the contacts within ISWA Switzerland.
