ISWA World Conference 15th - 18th of November 2010 Hamburg, Germany
Urban Development and Sustainability
– a major Challenge for Waste Management in the 21st Century
First Call for Papers (Abstracts)
We invite all – scientists; technical experts; managers; politicians; members of the cities, counties and ministries; students; ecologists; members of NGOs; engineers… In short: all those people, who are interested to broaden their knowledge about sustainability within the context of the Congress Program - to participate actively at this event with their presentation.
The Preliminary Program offers many topics to be dealt with. But it is only a preliminary program! If you intend to give a presentation on a topic, that is – until now – not part of the program, but should be covered in the program – do not hesitate to make your proposal. But – please - do so within the procedure we established for the call for papers! That means, send an abstract on “your” topic and use the forms provided for submitting abstracts.
The further process will be as follows:
- The program committee (PC) will review all abstracts. The PC has to select between different offers for presentation.
- As a result of this stage the PC will update the program with the names and titles of the presentations, which the authors will have to complete in the next stage.
- This updated program shall be finalized in March 2010.
To facilitate the whole procedure we need some additional personal information about you. Please complete the form provided for the additional information. Your personal data will only be used for the preparation of this congress.
You can submit your abstract here.
If your offer for a presentation has been selected for the Final Program, we need the written long version by the 15th of September 2010. The standard shall be an oral presentation of 15’ and 5’ for discussion.
The Guidelines for writing these long versions are published on www.iswa2010.org together with the Final Program.
The deadline for submitting abstracts for the 2010 ISWA World Congress has been extended to the 22nd of February 2010.

ISWA Communication Award 2009
ISWA is proud to announce that “Waste Aware Scotland Recycling Campaign” has been awarded the ISWA Communication Award 2009. |
The jury found that overall the communications campaign run by Waste Aware Scotland to enhance the recovery of waste from households and therefore to meet national recycling targets was the best of the four nominations put forward for the ISWA Communications award in 2009. The members of the judging panel were impressed by several aspects of the communications campaign, including:
• Piloting of the campaign
• The buy-in from stakeholders, especially food manufacturers and retailers
• Your range of presentation materials
• Linking local municipalities into a national campaign
• The extensive evaluation of the results.
The judging panel therefore felt that this campaign could act as an exemplar for other organisations seeking to raise awareness of the considerable range of products and materials which households could place in recycling bins.
The highest individual category score was given to the Valorsul nomination for the “originality” shown in promoting its anaerobic digestion plant as a facility the community could take pride in. |

ISWA Communication Award 2008 to Swedish National Member WasteSweden
The first ISWA Communication Award has been give to WasteSweden – the ISWA National Member from Sweden – for their campaign on hazardous waste. This first year edition of the Award was successful and many very high quality nominations were received.
The nomination panel including representatives from the ISWA Working Group, the ISWA Board and UNEP had a difficult work to appoint one of the campaigns as the winner. The contribution from WasteSweden was selected on the basis of its professionalism and it addressed a difficullt topic but a topic of high priority. Furthermore both internal and external communication were considered and the evaluation was of high quality.
More information about the campaign itself will soon be found on the ISWA Website as well as in Waste Management World.
The Communcation Award will handed out at the Annual Congress in Singapore.

ISWA-CH / EMPA Tagung April 2007
